Alexander Montagu, the 13th Duke of Manchester has been accused of being a bigamist twice over – yet when it comes to bad behaviour it seems to run in the family.

UNLESS your home is Buckingham Palace you don’t get more blue blooded than a duke.

As Debrett’s guide to the aristocracy puts it: “Duke is the highest of the five ranks of the peerage, standing above the ranks of marquess, earl, viscount and baron.”

But the increasingly lurid behaviour of Alexander Charles David Drogo Montagu, 52, the 13th Duke of Manchester, shows that a noble lineage that stretches back 1,000 years to the time of William the Conqueror is no guarantee of good form in the present generation. MORE
